The Society for Multiple Sclerosis Patients in Pakistan (SMSPP) is aimed at creating awareness about Multiple Sclerosis and helping MS patients live better lives. Our aim and purpose are to educate MS patients in Pakistan and their family and friends about the disease and help them cope with it better.
The 3 main Society aims and objectives include:
1. To create awareness about Multiple Sclerosis
2. To provide a support group to MS patients where they can openly discuss their disease-related problems
3. To provide Free of Cost medical assistance to MS patients who cannot afford treatment
MS or Multiple Sclerosis is not uncommon in Pakistan and studies show that 5 cases in a population of 100,000 are affected by this neurological disease. The main objective of the Society for Multiple Sclerosis Patients in Pakistan is to increase Multiple Sclerosis awareness among the general population. The society also aims at providing a platform for MS patients to discuss their problems with other patients. Due to a lack of awareness, proper knowledge, education, and guidance, it can take a long time to have your MS diagnosed. However, with proper awareness and knowledge, patients may be able to help their doctor in reaching a diagnosis at an early stage and live better lives after their diagnosis.
At SMSPP, we believe that the collection and distribution of information concerning Multiple Sclerosis will help to enhance the lives of individuals affected by MS. We believe in providing education and empowerment to the community with compassion to promote better care of patients in the long-term.
The society is an initiative taken by Afroz Syed, an MS patient from Lahore, Pakistan who was diagnosed with MS in January 2011. She is an alumna of Lahore Grammar School (LGS), Kinnaird College, and Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS).
